If you’re thinking about buying the 2023 Dodge Challenger, you will be getting a vehicle with a long and interesting history. Here you’ll learn about its origins, which date back more than 60 years.

Dodge Silver Challenger

The very first car to be called a Challenger wasn’t really a Challenger at all. It was a limited edition fourth generation Dodge Coronet, which was known as the Dodge Silver Challenger. Only available in silver, it also had white wall tires.

First Generation

The Dodge Challenger officially launched in 1969. This two-door convertible proved to be very popular right away, thanks in part to a big and comfortably interior. It also had a potent 335-horspower engine and could go from zero to 60 MPH in just six seconds. But due to decreasing sales after 1970, Dodge decided to discontinue the car.

Second Generation

In 1978, the Dodge Challenger was reborn, though like the very first model, it wasn’t exactly a Dodge Challenger. The second-generation vehicle was an early version of the Mitsubishi Galant Lamda. By 1983, this car too had been discontinued.

Third Generation

Dodge decided to bring back the Dodge Challenger in 2008, and this model was based on the original Challenger model. Since its second rebirth, this muscle car has become a mainstay in the Dodge lineup. The 2023 model is a joy to drive, with a 303-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine and outstanding maneuverability.
